The Wuhan Oct Yuan An project is located in the East Lake Scenic Area, a region surrounded by mountains and water. Drawing from this natural context, T. K. Chu envisioned a series of intangible elements that can only be perceived by rational thinking rather than sensory organs. The result is a space that embodies the movement and change of matter, creating a unique atmosphere that sets it apart from other residential spaces.
3D parametric design was used to create sophisticated natural formations through precise calculations, making the space unique and artistic. Thousands of drop-shaped illuminants gather at the end of optical fibers, forming a "waterfall" that flows down from the ceiling. The use of materials such as Dionyssos Pentelikon, Travertine, Artificial Stone, Baking Paint Board, Cork Oak Bark, White Glass, Wallpaper, Leather, and Titanize Metal further enhances the aesthetic appeal of the space.
The design team faced several challenges in realizing this project. One of them was to use parametric models to create natural forms of mountains and water, adhering to the rigorous mathematical logic and geometric order found in natural phenomena. Another challenge was to find various optical fiber materials to achieve the visual effect of a "waterfall". Despite these challenges, the team managed to create a space that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional.
One of the unique features of this project is the interdependence and interaction between space, furniture, and decorations. The mountain-shaped sofa and dining chairs, and the water-shaped ceiling and counter, together give the overall space a unique ambience. This harmonious indoor environment is a testament to T. K. Chu's design philosophy and aesthetic sensibilities.
The Wuhan Oct Yuan An project is a shining example of how design can be used to create a living space that is not only visually appealing but also deeply connected to its natural surroundings. It is no surprise that this project was awarded the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, a testament to its outstanding design and trendsetting creations.
